After undergraduate studies at the Technical University of Munich and the University of Amsterdam and a research stay at Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Alex pursued Ph.D. studies at the ETH Zurich, where he worked on the unraveling of post-transcriptional gene regulatory networks. After obtaining his degree in 2012, he continued studying RNA biology in the group of Mihaela Zavolan at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel, switching his pipette for a keyboard. Since becoming a research associate in 2016 in the same group, Alex has gradually shifted towards Open Science and technology. He is a member of the Standards Steering Committee of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH), a co-champion of the ELIXIR Cloud & AAI Driver Project of the GA4GH, a work package lead of the ELIXIR Compute Platform and the main driver behind the ELIXIR on Cloud project.
